July and August 2010 We have enjoyed hosting the 'Word from the Wise' Bible Studies and, at the last in the series, David Edmondson was thanked for leading these evenings and making them so enjoyable and helpful. Congratulations to Heather and Nigel for winning the logo competition. As we are soon to become a United Area (Methodist and URC) we needed a new logo. Their prize was a selection of Fair Trade goods. The next meeting of the Prayer Shawl Group will be on Wednesday 30th June from 1.00pm to 2.00pm. This will be held in the Church as there will be some plastering and tiling work being done in the toilets and passage. A Tea & Chat afternoon will be held on Wednesday July 21st and tickets are now available at £3.00. There will be the usual stalls including cake stall, groceries, gifts etc. There is no Church lunch in July and on August 4th we will all be going out for lunch (to give the kitchen ladies a break). There will be a poster and 'sign up' list on the notice board if you would like to go to the Bay Horse at Hawcoat. The next lunch at Ramsden Street will be on September 1st. On August 12th, our Moderator will be in Furness as part of his 'wheel mission' round all the churches in Cumbria (and beyond). He will lead a short act of worship in Furness Abbey and, if fine, we can follow this with a picnic. A Ceilidh will begin at 7.00pm at Trinity. Do check out the poster for the Area Day at Windermere - it looks great and there is something for everyone! June 2010 On Sunday April 25th - we were delighted to welcome our Moderator, Rev Richard Church and his wife, Sheila, to Ramsden Street. Richard led our worship and then we all enjoyed their company over lunch before they returned home. Wednesday April 28th - the second of our Prayer Shawl meetings was held and several more shawls were completed and blessed. The next meeting is on Wednesday June 30th at 1.00pm Our Social Evening on Saturday May 1st was a very happy occasion with everyone joining in the games and quizzes and also enjoying their Pie and Peas supper. £100 was raised for Church funds. On Sunday May 9th, we enjoyed the service led by our friends from Morecambe, Rev Richard and Brenda Gill. Unfortunately, they are retiring and so this was their last service for us here at Ramsden Street. We all enjoyed lunch together (again!) and gave Brenda and Richard a small gift to show our appreciation to them for their kindness to us over many years. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to deliver and collect the Christian Aid envelopes. Once again we were able to cover all the streets allocated to us. Following on from a successful Saturday morning Family Event at Easter, we are holding another one on Saturday June 5th from 10.00am to 12.00. This will include various activities and games for both adults and children. The Women's Meeting does not meet again until September 8th but, two Wednesday events between now and then are the Afternoon Service and Tea on June 23rd and the Tea & Chat on July 21st Tickets are now available for the Community Outreach Group coffee Morning at Dalton on Saturday June 12th and if anyone can help on the day this will be appreciated. |
